Mikumi National Park is a wildlife-rich park in southern Tanzania, often called the “mini-Serengeti” for its open grasslands and abundant animals, including lions, elephants, zebras, and buffaloes. Part of the vast Selous ecosystem, it’s easily accessible from Dar es Salaam (4-5 hours by road) and offers excellent game viewing, especially on the Mkata Floodplain. With over 400 bird species, scenic landscapes, and fewer crowds than Tanzania’s more famous parks, Mikumi is a great safari destination year-round (best in dry season: June–October). Activities include game drives, birdwatching, and nearby hiking in Udzungwa Mountains.
